overuse of plastic bag packaging

I'm very concerned that some fruit and veg retailers are over using plastic which is now considered a pollutant. I didn't have that experience in California where most products are available for individual selection by the customer, and brown paper bags are used for final packaging, not plastic. The bulk pre-packaging of fruit and vegetables in plastic bags is simply not good service. It was never the practice in time past. It seems a convenience for the customer but in fact is raises the price of the produce since one is paying for packaging as well as the fruit and veg. And it is not possible to select items to one's own satisfaction..

South Africans need to take a stand on this practice, which is getting worse, It is a threat to the environment - plastic everywhere - and is practised to suit the retailer (though disguised as a benefit to the customer).
