Ignoring customers
On Monday I went to the Zonnebloem, Upper Roeland St, "Food *****'s Market. I first went to the Bakery, at the back of the shop. I waited dutifully, looked at the bakers bustling around, who looked at me, but carried on working. Two ladies were busy behind a see-through partition, who also ignored me. I waited some more, whilst everybody carried on with their tasks and continued as if I did not exist. I then left. Can one possibly describe this behaviour as “Customer service”? Were they busy with a go-slow form of strike? Why would I even bother to go there again to buy cake or bread? I might as well go to Shoprite or Checkers.
A few years ago this attitude was prevalent at PicknPay stores. They then had a shake-up – Things improved slightly. What happened in the meantime? - Shoprite started to eat their lunch – as they continue to do. For professional and friendly customer service, Makro stores are the best, followed by Shoprite/Checkers. Copy them and you will see a massive improvement. You could even improve the handling of your fresh produce, where more than half of it is always either bruised or cut. This equates to losses of hundreds of thousands of rand per annum. Kind regards, Gargantua.
