I visited Food *****s Market in Parow (China Town) on 17 May 2025 just before 5 PM. According to the operating hours posted at the entrance, the store closes at 6 PM, but they shut the doors at 5:30 PM. While I was still shopping, an announcement was made that the store was closing. I rushed to the tills and asked the cashier why they were closing early. She said they usually close at 5:30 PM because there are typically no customers after that time. I pointed out that this contradicts the posted hours and could mislead customers arriving after 5:30. She insisted the real closing time is 5:30 PM. As I was leaving, I saw several customers outside trying to get in. Security rudely turned them away, stating that the store always closes at 5:30 on Saturdays. One elderly lady was pleading to be let in but was denied. It’s disappointing and misleading for a business to advertise one time but operate by another.
