Food*****s Markert Ignores Consumer Rights
Dear Food*****s Market, Northrand Road
I was at your store yesterday around lunch time, shopping for Boksburg Child Welfare in preparation for a meeting which was to occur later on in the day. My staff member and I were treated poorly by your staff and Eugene who works in the food department but would not produce his surname as he stated as per the Consumer Protection Act he is protected from releasing his surname. So I do not know his title as I asked Food*****s staff member to call the store manager and they produced Eugene, a white male. Firstly, you need to train your staff on the Consumer Protection Act and the POPPI Act! Secondly, we are in a pandemic, you need to train your staff on hygiene protocols when it comes to working with food. You don't weigh, film wrap a food item then over 5 minutes later rip through the film wrap and pass it from hand to hand. Now the container has germs from two of your staff members hands. And Eugene was on his phone then he had a tray of slightly frozen fish which the container was on top of. Thirdly, if your scales are not weighing the correct mass, I don't see how I as a customer or any other customer is liable and responsible for the incorrect weighing. Your staff and Eugene basically snatched the product away. With Eugene going on about, do you really think I'm going to give you this product for this price. Let me tell you that I am the one that queried the pricing with your staff as she did not even have a clue as to the incorrect mass yet it had the correct pricing per KG! Fourthly, Eugene found it fitting to assess my intellectual capabilities by asking me questions such as did I really think that this was the mass of the item. Well, Eugene, I'm not a scale, I don't work in retail, I am a social worker by profession and a Director at Boksburg Child Welfare, when I purchase an item at the deli I dish the item into a container and proceed to the scales. Whatever price is presented is what I pay. That is my right as a consumer. The only reason why I did not do as mentioned above was because my staff member had taken the very same food item and it was priced differently due the scales. Also, how dare you ask if I really think a Caprese Salad would cost that??? So know I must explain that I do not eat Caprese Salad, I am purchasing it for board members, I'm on my 1 month religious fasting....I wont be eating it anyway. Eugene presented with a dictatorship mentality. He wanted to be heard but did not want to listen. I will not be intimidated as a consumer, I know my rights and if Food*****s Northrand Road wants to infringe upon my rights then I personally and for business will not be shopping at this store. I usually shop at Food*****s Sunward Park. There have been incidences of incorrect pricing and they have understood the consumers rights, allowed the purchase and rectified their mistake. Ensuring that my shopping experience is not compromised. They have provided excellent customer service throughout the years especially when orders were made for our Annual General Meetings and community programmes. This is about the principle of the matter, the way you treat your customers and the arrogance and ignorance met by Food*****s staff will reflect the future sales you make. Another thing, your tills are not set for your combo promo, its the second time being at your store and the customer has to notify your cashier of certain promos and the pricing. The reason why I am writing this today is because I didn't have time to stick around arguing with Eugene, I had a meeting to prepare for which ended at 9pm.
