Food *****'s Market Floor Manager's Attitude

Good day, I am writing this complaint email as a result of my husband’s bad experience today with floor manager (Rodney) at the Sandown road Food *****'s Market store. We have been shopping there since the store first opened. My husband is originally from Italy, and loves the food variety at the Sandown FLM store. However, he noticed way back that the Ciabatta bread wasn't really Ciabatta, but more like country bread... At that time, he had a chat with the Congolese baker who is still working there today. He offered him a fantastic traditional Ciabatta recipe, and he has been producing lovely Ciabatta bread since. The issue we are reporting, goes back a long way. About a year ago, my husband spoke to the floor manager (Rodney) as the bread was a few days old, he suggested they reduced the price as it is no longer fresh bread! Rodney then agreed to speak to head management to rectify the issue, as he also thought it was not in order to sell old bread for the price of fresh bread. My husband even phoned head office to report this issue, and was reassured that they would correct this. The issue was never corrected. However, from time to time we had no choice but to buy old bread. But, the ladies at the bakery placed a 50% discount sticker for the bread bought. Today, he needed to buy 6 Ciabatta loaves as we had a family dinner planned. To his disappointment, the bread was old. He wasn't really keen to buy it, but as we planned to purchase all our shopping at Food *****s Market, he asked Rodney, the floor manager, to please at least reduce the price as the bread wasn’t fresh. To his amazement, Rodney’s response was far from friendly and accommodating, he told my husband that the bread has a shelf life of 2-3 days!? My husband rep**** that this might apply to packaged/sliced bread but not fresh bread which becomes yesterday's bread after 24 hours. In short, Rodney was absolutely unmannered, unfriendly and unhelpful in his attitude, and he reminded my husband that the price reduction is only at their “discretion” and not at the customer's request! (perhaps Rodney is not aware that the customer is always right?) He completely spoiled our day and left my husband fuming and in a bad mood. This is an unacceptable, ********* and unprofessional attitude, particularly from a manager. We don't wish to receive an apology, we just wish that the bread issue can be resolved once and for all, and this manager, Rodney, is certainly in need of some added training to improve his customer-service skills. Particularly as he ended the conversation in a very sarcastic manner, saying; 'Have a nice day.'
