Disgustingly UNhygeniec butchery

On Saturday 30th October, we went to FLM Bruma to purchase some sosaties. At the butchery counter a young man came to assist us.

We told him that we only wanted beef sosaties and as they were not marked, could he please inform us of the marinade flavours which we available in beef.

He then tried to sell us chicken and pork sosaties which we refused. He then said that he did not know what marinade flavour was what because he was new there and had not had the time to label the beef sosaties.

He then called over another person who was behind the counter and asked this person what the marinade flavours were, this 2nd guy pointed to the sosaties and rattled the marinade flavours off so fast that we did not even hear what he was saying.

The first guy then asked us if we had got that. I said No.

He then said that he would call someone else for assistance. Then a 3rd person in a red overall coat from behind the counter approached us and said that he was the butchery manager but as he did not work down that side of the the counter he was not sure what the marinade flavours were.

He then proceeded to pick up a dirty, yes dirty tong and put it across the one lot of sosaties and then swiped his finger over the tong and tasted the marinade flavour!!!

I mean, seriously!!! He told us that it was some form of curry flavour and how many would we like. We asked for 4. The same tong that was finger licked was used to pick up the 4 sosaties and they were put in a tray.

We were amazed!! We looked at both of them in utter amazement. The manager (guy in red overall) then had a discussion with the 2nd guy who had come to "assist" his colleague while we just stood there like fools.

We then told them that if that was their hygiene lever and level of cleanliness in a food environment, we would rather leave the sosaties and go somewere else.

The mananger then said that he was sorry he did not like his customers to be unhappy and we just walked away.

We proceeded to the front of the store and requested to speak to the store manager, after about 5 minutes the store manager came and spoke to us. He said that the situation was unacceptable and took my number and said he would deal with the matter, escalate it higher up and would call me.

Since then, have not heard a word from FLM Bruma until present. On Monday 31st October, I called FLM head office in Cape Town, proceeded with my complaint and was told that I would have a response within 24 hours.

24 hours later the lady called me back to say that the complaint had been lodged with the relevant departments and someone would be contacting me within the next 24 hours, viz. Wednesday 2nd November.

It is now thursday, 3rd November and I have had no further response.

The butchery manager foned me earlier on today and said that he had received an email and he was foning to apologise for the "inconvenience" and then proceeded to argue with me and told me that there are cameras in the store whose footage can be checked and when i brought up the health department, he told me that he would welcome them and then further argued with me until I told him to stop wasting my time and terminated the call.
