Foneyam

I want to warn people about this thing of foneyam contacts, I don't care about what's their agreement with Ackermans and Pep but what they are doing is nothing different to a ****. On December 2023 I went to Ackermans hoping I could get to open up a store account so that I can get a new phone as I had lost my recent one. When I got there I first met this girl by the door who assisted me with opening up the account but unfortunately I was declined. And then this guy in black suit approached me with this foneyam contact thing which sounded very interesting, he told me that I could take a phone from Samsung with this account and pay for 6 months but there will be an upfront fee. As I was urgently needed a new phone I gave him an ear. He then told me I'll have to pay an upfront fee which will depend on which model of Samsung I'm choosing, and after seven days I'll have to come back to pay R127 and then from January up to June I'll be paying for the phone on contact. It sounded okay as he continued adding that they only needed a bank statement from me and a ID card, which was already in my hands. I picked up Samsung A14 of which I had to pay an upfront fee of R900. He then added on saying that the phone will come with a sim card which I'll never have to take off the phone until I have finished paying. He told me that the amount I'll be paying for 6 months is R343.88 which was music to my ears 'cause I knew it will be nothing for six months instead of not having the phone at all. He kept reminding me about the R127 I'll have to pay after 7 days, I told him to relax I'll remember. He then mentioned that foneyam will be sending messages to remind me on payments. Okay I got the phone guys, I'm only explaining in details because I want you to see on how I got lured up to an agreement contact of foneyam. Okay I paid the R127 after 7 days, and just like the guy said there were reminders sent. I began paying the monthly fee from January 27, on June I was so excited that it would be my last day of having to pay for the phone. I got to the store and paid, after till counter gave me the slip I asked if there's anything I will be getting as proof that I finished paying for the phone, that's when I got told that the contact is for 12 months, I was surprised, shocked and angry at the same time. I asked how was things changed because I only know that I'm supposed to pay for 6 months, the till counter rep**** to me saying he doesn't know why but I'm not the only who was mislead. I looked around the store hoping to see the guy signed me up for the contract but he wasn't there. I figured it was no use snapping at the till counter 'cause he had no clue, I accepted to myself that I'll be paying for another 6 months. During the remaining 6 months I had been having problems at work so I wasn't paying well, sometimes I would pay after a week of the day I'm supposed to pay which is the 27th and they would freeze the phone from the 28th. I remember in November 28th this lady from foneyam called me which got to my surprise that I could receive calls and be able answer even the phone was freezed, the lady asked for a reason why I haven't paid and I told her that I haven't got my salary yet but I'll be paying soon and she told me that December will be my last month of paying if I want I can double pay when I get money. I appreciated that update from her until December 3O I got a message telling me that I have to 64 rand and some change if I want to keep the phone to myself and I'm like what the he'll?!. Why would I pay 12 months for the phone if don't want it. I called foneyam customer service this morning to ask the same question and the lady that assisted told me that they'll have to take it off the system, she told me about something to do with taking out the company's software, I'm like what does that have anything to do with me 'cause I've finished up paying. Why they did not take that software off the minute I paid my last installment. I told her I'll be going to all social media platforms with this 'cause there have been gaps with this thing from the beginning, it seems like a ****. Sister gave me a go ahead as her exact words were "Sizobona ngawe"

After writing my review here on Saturday I got a call from a lady who's from foneyam, she referred me to an email *****@foneyam.co.za to write my complaint on but it doesn't seem to exist. And the ones that they shared on their information on internet seem to be not existing either. I'd like to be giving a correct email to reach out to them

Good morning

I'm not sure if your confirmation is correct 'cause I told the lady I was on the phone with yesterday that I'm still not happy. Yes I'll pay the money that's required from me, but maybe it would be better if I knew how this thing was from the beginning. And the fact that I'm not the only one who was unfortunate to encounter the problem leaves me fuming with anger, as on facebook I shared my post to different groups and people were complaining about the same thing.

It seems to me that your business has failed to comply with Consumer Protection Act of 68 2008.

. A RIGHT TO DISCLOSURE AND INFORMATION, whereby a business should display prices which are fully inclusive disclosing all costs ( this regards to that extra R64.95 I have to pay that is not mentioned on contract, even if the amount depends on the model of the phone it was still supposed to be mentioned that there would be and extra amount to pay at the end of the contract)

. A RIGHT TO FAIR/RESPONSIBLE MARKETING/PROMOTION, whereby a business should not mislead consumers on pricing, benefits/ uses of goods (of which me and other consumers are victims of such behavior from your Agencies, yes I know they were trying to work for their commission but this should reflect back on the business, it should leave the management worried on what else is going on in the market)

. A RIGHT TO FAIR/REASONABLE TERMS AND CONDITIONS, whereby a business shouldn't be marketing/selling goods at unfair prices ( I have paid double the price amount of store purchase on a rental phone that has no airtime, data benefits and so on)

. A RIGHT TO FAIR/HONEST DEALINGS, which is where by a business should not give misleading/false information about the product/service transaction.

I'd advise the business to be closed down or maybe go back to the drawing board and set on some other ideas to satisfy us as customers.
