Why I Will Never Fly FlySafair Again

My flight to Johannesburg went smoothly, with no issues regarding my hand luggage. However, on my return flight from Johannesburg to Durban, I was bul**** into paying for checked luggage despite meeting the airline’s stated requirements.
Chaotic Airport Experience I arrived at the airport three hours early to avoid traffic and potential delays. Despite my efforts, the experience was far from smooth. The gate number was changed without any announcements, and had I not noticed the update on the screen, I would have missed my flight.
Rude Staff & Unfair Luggage Charges When I reached the gate, the staff member checking me in was exceptionally rude. He insisted that my hand luggage was too big, even though I showed him the exact dimensions, which clearly comp**** with FlySafair’s policy. He refused to listen and bul**** me into checking it in.
Since reasoning with him was pointless, I opted to pay via the FlySafair app, which charged R155 instead of the R350 they were demanding. However, I was told they "didn’t have time" to let me use the app. No one actually measured my bag to prove it was oversized. Instead, I was forced to pay R350 by card, as they did not accept cash.
The entire process was frustrating and humiliating, surrounded by staff who had zero regard for customer service.
Terrible In-Flight Service After finally boarding, I struggled to find space for my laptop bag. The flight attendant offered no help and instead stood at the back, smiling at me. When I finally asked her for assistance, she rudely told me to "just put it under my seat" instead of helping me find a suitable spot.
A Financially & Emotionally Draining Experience This experience was not only traumatizing but also financially unfair. I was forced to pay for something that even the airline staff could not justify.
For reference, my hand luggage dimensions were: Small: 22-inch Bag - approx. 54cm x 36cm x 26cm (as per my ticket’s allowance). Let me know if you need images.
Final Thoughts FlySafair’s lack of organization, rude staff, and unfair charges made this one of the worst flying experiences I’ve ever had. I will never fly with them again.
