They only appear to care after losing my cellphone and luggage
Posting on behalf of my wife:
On flight FA216 to Cape Town on Thursday afternoon I forgot my cellphone in the seat pocket of the seat in front of me, i.e. in front of seat 21C (yes, rookie error, but I was dealing with a very difficult 19-month old while trying to pack up and disembark. I realised once I had left the luggage carousel area and immediately alerted my husband. He ran to the FlySafair ticket sales office, but they wasted his time and were unhelpful. Eventually someone from Menzies assisted him and he got the necessary note to run back into the terminal and to the plane. Unfortunately, he arrived just after the plane had shut its doors. Menzies assured us that they would let the crew onboard know about the phone the moment the plane landed and would then call us back. Unfortunately they never did. In the meantime we lodged a lost property application with FlySafAir. We phoned Menzies later the same evening and they indicated that they had not heard anything. We phoned FlySafAir the following morning and the lady at reception found our lost property application and indicated that she would let us know if anything was found. Later the Friday afternoon she emailed to confirm that nothing was found. I asked her to check again as I was 100% sure that the phone was in the seat pocket after which she indicated that both the flight crew and cleaning crew had been through the seats and aeroplane and nothing was found. In other words, the phone had been ******. We are disappointed as we tried our best to recover the phone, but no one seemed to share our urgency, or general care for the customer.
Following this incident, we returned to JHB from CT on flight FA213 on Sunday afternoon. We checked in two bags as part of our check-in luggage as well as a car seat as over-sized luggage. We retrieved both the c*****at and one of the checked-in bags, but unfortunately the other bag did not show up on the carousel and we were informed that we would need to report the lost bag to Menzies at ORT Airport. We did so and in addition to waiting a very long time for our luggage, this trip to Menzies made us very late in fetching our car (we had opted for the valet parking option). This resulted in a parking ticket of R100. Which was just the unfortunate cherry on top of a pretty terrible weekend in terms of flights and airports.

Hi, our sincere apologies for the unpleasant service received and the frustration caused. If an item that was left on board was found by the crew or cleaning staff it is handed over to the lost and found department. Regrettably, there are times where the items are not found. We are sorry to hear of the bag that was missing, kindly advise if the bag was found so that we can escalate and have an agent assist further. -BC

My response:
Is this the level of care you take in responding to items that have officially been reported as lost? Casually waiting for it to be returned to the lost and found department?
