SAFAIR'S baggage policy is a farce and prejudices passengers who obey the rules

<p>My wife and I pre-booked ourselves in on the 07.30 flight from Cape Town to Durban on monday 20th February 2017 so we should have been abe to walk on unimpeded with our on-board luggage. When we got to our seats we found our overhead baggage locker full as it had been used by other seat holders and there wasn't room for another thing. Closer examination of its contents and that of other lockers revealed that other passengers had brought on large overweight and oversize bags which they stuffed into lockers that were not theirs.</p> <p>I vainly traversed the aisle with our small bags looking for a couple of empty spaces elsewhere but could find no available space at all, so I had to return against the traffic flow in the aisle holding the bags above my head until I reached the top of the aisle where I handed them to the air hostess to store in the galley.</p> <p>Passengers are naturally reluctant to pay an extra R250 per bag to stow them in the hold so they bring them on board and usurp any empty lockers they can find, prejudicing those who toe the line and obey the rules. Having established a baggage policy they should enforce it. Warning to future passengers: make sure you get on the first bus to the plane to get your luggage into your own overhead locker.</p>
