Pregnant wife and I refused on flight due to 3 minutes late

My pregnant wife and I missed our scheduled flight with 3 minutes. We were late unfortunately - and was scolded by the staff at check in.

We had a very important meeting scheduled for the pregnancy, thus I pressed to be assisted. No alternative nor assistance was given for us.
