I booked a flight from JHB to Cape Town for the 17th, the price was 890. The next day I decided to change my booking from the 17th to the 19th. I went on their website to do just that and was informed there would be a 300 penalty plus whatever the overcharge was on the amount of the new flight. Which made sense to me, right? Fine. I search for flights and the selected one with the amount displayed next to it being 987. Now it doesn’t sound stupid to think this is is the price for the new flight. So I proceed to make payment, mind you, the page doesn’t show me a total anywhere. I put in my card details, doesn’t show me a total. I’m still thinking I’m about to pay R300 penalty plus about R100 difference for the new flight, which would amount to R400+-. I go ahead and make payment and I see a debit of R1298.00 leave my account. I’m confused, I’m like how? Maybe they made a mistake of charging me the new flight amount plus the 300 instead of just the difference, right? Makes sense. I call their customer care to let them know this just happened and I was told that the amount for the new flight I was trying to book was R2000+ and the R987 displayed is the surcharge! What?! Why would you display just the surcharge and make an effort not to show the total amount at any point during the whole transaction?! I didn’t even see a total of R1289.00 not to talk of R2000+. Why would it cost 1289 to rebook a flight that initially cost R890?? Who in their right sense would go ahead with such a transaction? Where first of all, I wasn’t pressed to stay in jbourg, I could’ve left that same day as my flight was booked for 8pm. I changed the flight bcos I wanted to. How is it fair that you knowingly do not display a total? What more, I’m checking flights for Friday the 19th now and the flight I booked for 8pm is R1292. So how am I being charged R987 as surcharge for a flight that’s R1292? I’m sorry we can’t refund you or cancel your ticket. **********. Trickery. Thievery.
