Disgusting treatment of a 18 year old traveller

Good day all , sorry for the long message but I just wanted to share the experience of my son on safair on a flight from CT to Durban 2 weeks ago

At the check in counter he handed in his luggage bag and the counter staff then told him his hand luggage was over sized , he then told them it’s fine he I’ll pay to send the bag through, he paid R250 for the extra bag . He mentioned he needed to take out his fragile items so proceeded to buy a shopping bag , when he got back to the counter they refused to send the bag through saying bag drop was closed , this was literally 5 minutes later

They then proceeded to lecture him about being on time for his flight using terms like “you people” and also asking him if he knows how to tell time, the staff then had an argument amongst themselves for 10 mins. They eventually allowed him to go to the gates after which they sent a manager after him to lecture him again and then open his laptop bag , they took the box of sweets he bought for his brother and made him open the box and take out the contents

He eventually made it on the flight with the deemed over sized bag with which he has traveled 3 times before with the same contents

I lodged a complaint with safair and received a 2 liner response a week later justifying why they charged the R250 with no apology on the derogatory manner in which my son was treated , all they said was that it was an internal matter but basically it’s now closed and there is no recourse

I find the safair treatment of my son absolutely disgusting and I strongly believe they were trying to intimidate him and help themselves to the contents of his hand luggage which had expensive electronics in it

Please warn your kids travelling alone to be wary and not be intimidated at the airport by staff clearly looking for “gifts”
