Deep Disappointment and Frustration Over FlySafair Strike Handling

I am writing to express my deep frustration and disappointment regarding the recent FlySafair pilot strike, which left me and my family stranded in Durban over the weekend. What was supposed to be a routine return trip turned into a logistical nightmare, with significant personal and professional consequences.

Not only did I miss critical work commitments, but my children were unable to attend school—disrupting their academic progress and causing unnecessary stress. The lack of clear communication and support from FlySafair during this crisis was nothing short of unacceptable.

My Key Concerns: Inadequate Communication: We received vague SMS notifications with no real-time updates or guidance. There was no proactive outreach, and we were left scrambling for information. Poor Customer Service: At the airport, service desks were overwhelmed and understaffed. Agents seemed uninformed and unable to assist effectively. Calls to the helpline went unanswered or were met with generic responses. No Contingency Planning: There appeared to be no backup plan to accommodate stranded passengers. No alternative flights, no hotel assistance, and no meaningful compensation were offered. Disregard for Passengers: The strike may have been a labor issue, but the way FlySafair handled its paying customers showed a lack of empathy and professionalism. I understand that labor disputes can be complex, but the airline’s failure to manage the situation responsibly has caused real harm to families and professionals alike. I urge FlySafair to take accountability and implement better crisis management protocols moving forward.
