Cancellation of flights due to death of spouse
On 22 March my father passed away. He and my mom were due to fly to PE on 13 April and return on 16 April. A full refund will be provided for my father, but for my mother only a 50% refund (via a voucher) will be offered, to be used within 6 months.
Below is the quoted details from Safair:
If a passenger is unable to travel due to death or hospitalisation, a full refund, back to the method of payment, will be issued on that booking upon the receipt of the relevant documentation
If a direct family member of a passenger (mother, father, brother, sister or child) is hospitalised or passes away, 50% of the booking will be refunded to a flight voucher valid for six months, upon receipt of the required documentation.
Compare this to Kulula, who offer a full refund for the deceased, as well as for an immediate family member (i.e. spouse).
Do they really believe the spouse will be travelling alone, within 6 months, after losing a loved one? My parents knew each other for 43 years and were married for 38.
I know the T's and C's are on the website, but who honestly books a flight, considering the possibility of death.
I believe this is a heartless policy by Safair, showing little regard for the loss of life.
