Bumped off flight

I got to the airport 50 mins before my flight. Went straight to the self service check in counter as I did not have any luggage. The self service counter kept giving me an error so I was advised to go to the check in counter. As soon as I arrived they told me that the check in was closed. There were 10 people left standing there in shock. They refused to put us on the flight. I definitely got the sense that they had over booked the flight. Really not looking forward to heading back to the airport at 5am tomorrow morning to get on the standby list.
