Absolutely Appalling Service – Avoid FlySafair at All Costs

I am absolutely disgusted with the disgraceful level of service I received from FlySafair today. After a long-haul international flight from Istanbul that was severely delayed and redirected — something entirely out of my control — I landed in Johannesburg at 15:40, missing my 14:25 FlySafair connection to Durban. I had originally scheduled a generous 4-hour layover, which should have been more than sufficient under normal circumstances.

As soon as I disembarked, I rushed to the FlySafair service desk to explain the situation. Rather than receiving even the slightest bit of compassion or professionalism, I was met with cold indifference and bureaucratic nonsense. I was told that I had “an hour to report a missed flight” — which is physically impossible to do when you’re 35,000 feet in the air with no Wi-Fi. The staff were fully shown proof of my delay via an official email, and despite having access to airport systems that confirmed the delay, they outright refused to accept it. Instead, they demanded an “official letter” from the airline that caused the delay — and refused to even request it themselves, despite being told that they had to initiate the request.

The so-called “supervisor” told me, point blank, that it’s “not his job” and it’s “too much admin.” Seriously? Is this how you treat paying customers who are in a stressful situation through no fault of their own?

FlySafair, your customer support is beyond useless — it is insulting, callous, and entirely unfit for a company in the travel industry. If your staff can’t be bothered to do the bare minimum to assist stranded travelers, then you have no business operating at all. Your policies are rigid, your staff are apathetic, and your definition of “service” is an absolute joke.

Never again. FlySafair has earned a permanent spot on my do not fly list, and I will actively discourage anyone and everyone I know from using your services.
