45 days to cancel a flight booked or lose your money

I had a flight booked for today 12-Oct-2020.

Yesterday something personal happened and I had to cancel the ticket.

I received the following message;

Your flight departs in less than 45 days you do not qualify for a refund. Changes can be made to your ticket no later than 4 hours prior to departure online and one hour prior to departure through the call centre.

45 days, really? Who can predict what will happen in their life in 45 days?

I then asked them for the details of the ombudsman and they referred me to their website.
