Any Reason to not pay a warranty claim

In May 2016 I purchased a 1.1kw Zodiac pool pump after it was recommended by the sales person at the pool shop.

Considering Zodiac to be a decent company I made the purchase even though it was the most expensive pump as the 2 year warranty sounded attractive.

After 1 year the pump started leaking. I contacted Zodiac, the technician came out and stripped the pump in front of me.

He couldn’t understand what the problem was because when switched on it was sounding normal. He took the pump away and I then received a quote for R1400 to replace bearings and a backplate on the pump.

They stated that the pump ran dry. I requested a report and was sent a document where the technical stated that the pump reservoir was not full and the level of water lowered further after the solar panels are used causing the pump to run dry.

If he never ran the pump for more than 5 seconds when he was on site and the panels were bypassed how could he come to such a conclusion. They then held the pump back until I paid the quote in full. They stated that I have a suction leak on the line. I have since dug up all my pipes and have found no such leak. I even invite Zodiac to come and check themselves as the pipes are still exposed. I do not believe that whilst the pump is under warranty you can charge me R1400+ for a repair. Its day light *******.

Still no contact made with me. " Please be assured of our commitment to providing consistent and reliable service when you need us most" how can you classify your service that way when you have not even contacted me to set up a time to inspect the pipping to prove the leak is present as indicated in your report.

When I needed them most they provided hog wash service, Zodiac products are over prices, problematic and the aftersales service is a botheration.

Hi Jason

Upon reviewing you case regarding the pool pump and filtration system, the service calls history on your account according to our database indicates that the technician has advised in the past that suction was low indicating a possible suction leak.

The first time he came out was on 7 January 2016 (Case: 377879) to inspect your MX6 pool cleaner and found pressure drops from 3 to 1 on our suction gauge.

His second visit was on 25 October 2016 (Case: 463222). He found no fault on the MX6 but he advised the suction was 1.5 – customer to rectify.

On 26/5/17 he went out a third time to inspect the 1.1kw Flopro SS pump (Case: 515547).

The pump was leaking when switched on. Our technician also discovered that the pump ran dry.
