R70 000 Reserve Disappeared, FLOAT is MIA

This is the 2nd time I am using FLOAT for a big purchase.

The 1st time around, everything went smoothly. Communication on time, reserves held and then released timeously. 3 months, no problem.

This time however has been extremely problematic. No communication on debits. No reserve held. Debiting directly from my credit card instead of the reserve.

My credit card is now blocked.

I have been in good standing on my credit card FOR 10 YEARS!!!

When I called my bank to enquire if there was even a reserve authorised on my purchase via FLOAT, I was told no. Where is the R70 000 with which I purchased from Leroy Merlin from via FLOAT?

NOBODY KNOWS.

FLOAT as expected, has now gone silent.

Hi Nombuso,

Thank you for sharing your concerns with us — and we truly understand how frustrating this situation must feel, especially given your previous smooth experience with Float and your long-standing good credit record.

Firstly, we want to clarify that we have not gone silent. We have experienced a temporary mailer issue, which has affected our communications. Our product team is aware of this and actively working on resolving it. We apologise if this made it seem like there was no communication.

The core benefit of Float is that it allows you to make big purchases without being charged the full amount upfront, which gives you time to manage your credit card repayments instead of dipping into your cash. While we do reserve the full amount on your credit card, only the first interest-free instalment is charged, and the reserve reduces as you pay each instalment. This reserve is not a charge and is managed through your bank’s system. If your bank cannot see an active reserve, it typically means the pre-authorisation has either expired or been released on their side. This is designed to make your credit work better for you, offering flexibility that typical credit card purchases don’t.

We are disappointed to hear your experience but value your feedback. If you have any further concerns, please reach out to us on *** so we can adequately assist you. We believe that one of our agents are already communicating with you to try address your concerns and assist.

Regards,
The Float Team
