Avoid Float – Endless Frustration and Poor Customer Support

I’ve had a deeply frustrating experience with Float over a simple issue they seem incapable of resolving. Despite clear communication, their customer support consistently failed to grasp the problem and provided irrelevant responses that did nothing to address the issue.

The issue started when Float placed a reserve on my credit card for an installment plan, which was completely fine. However, weeks later, they attempted to place another reserve for the same amount, despite the first reserve still being active on my card. This would result in double the amount being held, which my credit card cannot accommodate. As a result, my bank has been rejecting these additional reserve attempts for which I am now being charged hefty banking fees for, even though the original amount is already secured. Despite my repeated explanations, Float’s support team continued to miss the point and offered no solution.

If you want to save yourself from endless frustration, I highly recommend avoiding Float for any significant purchases. Their inability to understand and resolve basic issues is beyond disappointing.

Hi Ethienne,

Thank you for your honest feedback. We are sorry for any inconvenience you encountered. We value your input and are committed to assist you adequately.

To answer your query, reserves are renewed in between each instalment and do not fall on the same day as your instalment date. You will receive reminders from 7 days before the reserve renewal date. If the previous reserve still appears as “pending” or “uncleared” in your account, don’t worry. It will be automatically released by your bank, but can take up to a few days or more to reflect in your account.

Reserves are not a charge to your account and are completely interest-free. This ensures you don’t overspend on your card and helps you to meet your instalment repayments. As you pay each monthly instalment, the amount reserved will reduce to the remaining balance of the purchase until your purchase is fully paid.

To resolve this and adequately assist you our head of support would like to contact you.

We value your feedback. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Regards,
The Float Team

Best regards,

EB

Hi Float Team,Thank you for your response, but it seems we are still not addressing the core issue. While I understand the general process you’ve described—regarding how reserves work and that they are renewed between installments—it does not address the situation at hand.My query is specific: How can Float justify imposing or attempting to impose a new reserve when the previous reserve is still in place? Your response that the previous reserve will be automatically released by the bank at some unknown future time does not resolve the immediate issue I’m facing—having double the reserve amount on my card. Now, I am left with two reserves on my account, which is unacceptable. This was never stated in any terms or conditions, nor was I informed that I would need to have double the outstanding amount of purchase available at any point during the installment plan. This situation has left me without access to a significant portion of my credit limit, and I now have to wait an unknown period of time for the bank to release the first reserve.Given these circumstances, I reiterate my request sent per email to cancel the installment plan with immediate affect. I do not wish to discuss or entertain this matter any further. Please ensure the outstanding balance is collected from the reserve currently held on my credit card, and close this matter promptly.Thank you.

Update on original review:
Since my original post, Float successfully imposed a second reserve on my account, leaving me with two active reserves, effectively doubling the outstanding amount. This has significantly reduced my available credit, and now I have to wait an unknown period of time for the bank to release the first reserve. According to Float's email communication, they claim there's nothing they can do except send a letter to my bank, requesting the release of the original reserve—despite being the ones who imposed these reserves on my account in the first place. Am I incorrect in assuming that this will likely be a recurring issue each month?
