Refusing refund

To sum everything up, our flights and accommodation got cancelled due to Covid and border closures, now they are refusing to refund after two agents told us that we will get refunds within 7 days (R80 000). They are denying everything and telling us we signed their TC’s (which we never did). They never read or gave us any TC’s to read and sign.

We never asked them to cancel anything. They cancelled our flights without us giving them consent and our agent were never able to move our accommodation bookings. So they did not give us an option to rebook, they just cancelled it and now they don’t want to give us a refund. They want us to pay a penalty fee to get flight refunds, but they cancelled it and the borders closed, so we feel that we have a right to get our money back.

Dear Sene

Our Customer Experience team has reviewed your matter once more and determined the following;

  • Flight Centre booking terms and conditions were signed off electronically on the 12th of December 2021, and the proof has been provided.
  • Your Zanzibar booking was made for the purposes of "transiting" with the UAE being your intended destination.
  • Although you had tested positive for COVID19, the decision not to go to Zanzibar was due to the UAE imposing a travel ban on Tanzania hence this is deemed voluntary as the destination remains open to South African travellers. In light of this, third-party service providers app**** penalties.
  • We have confirmed that the booking agent received written instruction to obtain a refund for the previously confirmed travel products.
  • Feedback has been provided previously stating that refunds for flights will be availed subject to penalties but the accommodation is non-refundable, however, one of the two properties booked has allowed a re-booking.

At this time, all avenues to obtain a more favourable outcome have been explored and unfortunately, there will not be any refund for the accommodation that will be extended by Flight Centre as none has been afforded by the third-party service providers to whom payment had been made for your booking.

You had noted in other communication that you will consider litigation to get this matter resolved and that is your prerogative to do. Our Customer Experience team has also provided ASATA and CGSO details for you to take the matter up further as the feedback has been provided in full and final settlement of the matter by Flight Centre.
