Flight Centre Hilton – Disappointing Honeymoon Experience and No Resolution to Date

We booked our honeymoon accommodations through Flight Centre because of its reputation as a global travel company. We trusted the brand to ensure our arrangements were handled professionally and to give us peace of mind during such a special occasion. Unfortunately, our experience has been extremely disappointing.

Our itinerary confirmed a Beach Front Private Suite, along with an all-inclusive package that was communicated as including free-flow beverages. Upon arrival, we discovered discrepancies with both our accommodation and the package inclusions.

We spent approximately three hours in the hotel lobby trying to resolve the accommodation issues and arrived at our room far later than expected. Our first night was significantly disrupted, and instead of enjoying our honeymoon, we spent valuable time dealing with problems that should never have occurred. We also had to pay for drinks out of our own pockets despite having booked an all-inclusive package (which we had also not budgeted for).

Since returning to South Africa, we have repeatedly followed up with Flight Centre regarding our refund and compensation. Despite numerous emails and assurances that the matter has been escalated, we still have no confirmed resolution.

Our biggest concern is that Flight Centre appears to be making our resolution dependent on its communications with its third-party supplier. We booked and paid through Flight Centre, not the supplier. We chose Flight Centre because we trusted its reputation and expected it to take responsibility for the service it sold us. Its internal supplier arrangements should not leave us caught in the middle, waiting indefinitely for a resolution.

As a commercial business that earns revenue from bookings, Flight Centre should take ownership of its customers' complaints rather than leaving them to chase updates while it attempts to resolve matters with third parties.

Our honeymoon was a once-in-a-lifetime occasion, yet it was disrupted from the very first night. The time lost cannot be recovered, and the continued delays since our return have only added to our frustration.

It is extremely disappointing that a company of Flight Centre's standing has handled this situation in a way that has seriously undermined our trust in the brand. We are still waiting for a meaningful outcome rather than further updates about an ongoing investigation.

Dear Shanice.R,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us, and please accept our sincere apologies for what happened during your honeymoon. This is such a special, once-in-a-lifetime occasion, and we are truly sorry that discrepancies with your accommodation and package inclusions, along with the lengthy delay on arrival, disrupted what should have been a wonderful start to your trip.

We also understand your frustration at the continued delays since your return, and we hear your concerns about wanting Flight Centre to take ownership of this matter directly, rather than feeling caught in the middle while things are resolved with the supplier.

Please be assured that a customer experience expert will be in touch with you directly to investigate this matter further and assist in reaching a resolution.

Thank you for your patience, and once again, we are very sorry for the impact this has had on such an important occasion for you both.~C.M

Dear Shanice.R,

Thank you for sharing the details of your experience, and please accept our sincere apologies for the disruption this caused to such a special and once-in-a-lifetime occasion.

We want to assure you that this matter was taken seriously and thoroughly investigated on our end, including engaging directly with the relevant supplier to review the room category booked, the service inclusions expected, and the impact this had on the start of your trip.

We understand your concern around resolution being linked to supplier communication, and we want to acknowledge that, as the party who confirmed your booking, we recognise the expectation for Flight Centre to take ownership of this matter directly. As outlined in our booking terms and conditions, which are accepted at the time of booking, Flight Centre acts as an agent for third-party travel service providers, meaning that outcomes such as compensation are ultimately guided by the supplier's position, as they are responsible for delivering the accommodation and associated services booked.

Following our investigation, compensation has been offered and approved in relation to this matter, along with reimbursement for additional costs incurred during the stay as a result of the service shortfall experienced.

We do sincerely regret the impact this had on your trip, and we have communicated this resolution directly to you via email.

Thank you again for bringing this to our attention, we take all feedback seriously and continuously use it to improve our processes going forward.

Kind regards ~C.M
