Flight Centre could do much better!
On the 26th of September 2022, I had booked a return ticket with Flight Centre (their Woodlands Boulevard branch) to The Philippines with travel agent Kristen Peoh (reference number OEBY6O). I was initially planning to arrive in The Philippines on the 17th of December 2022 and fly back to South Africa on the 22nd of January 2023. But upon reaching Air Ethiopia check in counter with my luggage at Johannesburg International Airport, the person manning the desk promptly told me that I will require a VISA to enter The Philippines, as my travel dates are exceeding thirty days. With me lacking a VISA, she refused to issue my boarding pass and she did not allow me to check in my luggage. The person manning baggage check further advised me to go to Air Ethiopia ticket counter and rebook my return ticket (not exceeding thirty days) with them of which I did. At no stage did Flight Centre and travel agent advise me to get a VISA for The Philippines. Once I rebooked my ticket to The Philippines and arrived in Zamboanga a few days later, I called Flight Centre and the issue was raised with Kristen Peoh who simply told me that, "it is not our responsibility to advise our clients on VISAs and the responsibility is also on our clients". I had also advised Kirsten Peoh that since in Zamboanga, I extended my VISA to include the 22nd of January 2023 and I asked her to cancel my return flight on the 19th of January 2023 and keep me on my original return flight (for the 22nd of January 2023) and after checking on her computer, she refused and stated my Flight Centre ticket was issued with return date for the 19th of January 2023. Yet I inisisted I had to alter dates myself with Air Ethiopia. Kristen Peoh kept on insisting that the ticket she sold to me was valid and could not understand the fuss as my travel was less than thirty days and no VISA would be required and that I could have called their emergency number (I was under the impression that they would be closed being a public holiday). But again at no stage was I advised on Flight Centre emergency contact details and as our argument was making no headway, I decided to cut the conversation short. In conclusion, I am keeping proof of both tickets (issued by Flight Centre - Woodlands Boulevard branch) and also by Air Ethiopia - located in Johannesburg International Airport) to show Flight Centre when back in South Africa. Frankly, it is totally unacceptable for a travel agency to not advise their clients on travel bans, requirements and any other important information and I might as well cancel any further business with a travel agency that simply does not care beyond making a sale. Update: On the 04th of January 2023, I sent email to Flight Centre to highlight my complaint and on the same day, I received an email from Lloyd Machiri, who told me that my complaint would be investigated and Flight Centre would revert with feedback. However, on the 13th of January 2023, I received another email from Lloyd who apologised for the delay in giving me feedback regarding my complaint and that Flight Centre would revert with feedback by the 16th of January 2023. Yet up until today, I have not received anything from Lloyd or anyone else. I am not impressed at all!
