Financial loss due to lack of service from travel consultants
Last year I purchased a ticket for my husband to Europe. The sales consultant assured me that his documents were fine, only to find out at customs that he had the wrong passport (he has dual citizenship). Customs allowed him to continue on his flight with the condition that he apply for his SA passport. In Europe he was told he could not apply and had to come back to SA. During this time he fell ill and was hospitalised. I had to make arrangements to fetch him as he needs assistance. I went to our branch to change his return date and purchase my ticket. I was not informed of what travel documents I needed and when I accidently found out, it was too late to apply for a transit visa. As a result I had to cancel my ticket, which was not refundable, and change my husband's return date again. The cost of money lost due to the incorrect/lack of information received from the travel consultants is approximately R23000. I feel this is wrong as I expected the consultants to inform me as I am not a frequent traveler and am not aware of all the requirements for international travel.
