Only refunded a student after she went to the Small Claims Court

My daughter (who is a student) paid FIXIT a deposit of about R7000 for the repair of her iPad screen. In March 2021 Mr van Lamp promised to refund her because he could not fix it. We reminded him repeatedly, but he ignored our phone calls and emails. He only refunded it after we appealed to the Small Claims Court at the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court. The sheriff had delivered him a subpoena and the court date had been set.

Does he make a habit of profiting from poor students?
