Worst experience with FirstShop

FirstShop refuses to adhere to the CPA Act, as they made a mistake with advertising their prices online and to various entities that would resell their product.

I was a victim to one of their mess ups, which will end up costing me thousands of Rands and reputation. They advertised a HPE MSA 2062 10/25GbE iSCSI 2U 24-disk 2.5-inch Storage Chassis with 2x 1.92TB RI SSD SKU: R0Q82B for R177 499.00 for weeks now and supp**** that price to all their suppliers who then advertised this price for them.

Yesterday 07/07/2025 when I contact them to make a purchase because I quoted my client according to FirstShop pricing. I then waited the 2 weeks for my client to approve and send the PO only to find now when putting the order in that, we are sorry but we made a mistake and are now correcting it everywhere the price should actually be R391 000.

Now I have to go back to my client and explain that there was a mistake and lose the respect and reputation I have built with my client over the years or I must fork out the difference and purchase the machine for the new price due to FirstShop not picking up that there was a mistake until I was about to make the purchase, oh the silver lining thou is they offered me a discount off the R391 000, big whoop.

Worst experience I have ever encountered, when calling and explaining it is not my fault and it is due to me that they noticed this mistake when wanting to make a purchase then they immediately change the price was wrong and I should still pay the price I quoted my client on. I have screenshots of the price I was originally shown, along with the changed price, I also have screenshots of how my cart for the item shows R177 499.00 yet still get told otherwise.

I work in the IT industry and am well aware of the consciousness of making a mistake like this will cost the company but I should not suffer for their incompetence to run a business efficiently.

Hi Tyron Thank you for sharing your concerns. We understand how frustrating this situation has been, especially when you were planning around the pricing you saw online. We would like to clarify that while the Consumer Protection Act requires suppliers to display clear pricing, it also recognises that if a pricing error is obvious, a supplier may correct it before concluding a sale. In this case, the pricing displayed for the unit differed significantly from industry pricing, and we have paused commitments while we verify the correct price with HPE directly. We appreciate the impact this has had on your planning, and we regret the inconvenience caused. Once we have confirmation from HPE, we will reach out to you to discuss the next steps and explore how we can best assist you. Thank you for your understanding while we finalise this matter.
