Being charged for buying a faulty product

Back in 28 December 2016, I purchased the Logitech G430 headset.

A month later after ordering, the product finally got delivered to me, poorly packaged, without any padding inside ****erally just the product box bouncing around in a cardboard box five times its size).

A week after using it, I decided to connect the USB soundcard to my computer, to enable the surround sound on the headset, but it didn't work. The USB device was unrecognised.

After researching this, it seems to be a fault in the first batch of these soundcards (that are included with the headset) manufactured. It surprises me that several years after the release of this product, Firstshop still own such a model.

I decided to email Firstshop in late January, but never got a response. Two months later, I gave up waiting and contacted Firstshop over several mediums, such as their website, email and Facebook. A few days later, I got a response on Facebook saying that they would email me about the warranty.

I got an email from Jonathan telling me that Teri would contact me. I then got another email from Teri saying "We are requesting authorisation from our warehouse to return it."

On the 28th of April, 2017, over 100 days after I made my order, I sent another another email asking what the situation was, because I had heard nothing further. On 3 May, Firstshop told me that I needed to pay R150 for collection and another R150 for delivery in order to take the headset to the repair centre to be checked (will NOT be replaced if no problems are found, according to their standards). Something tells me that they won't find an issue, because they won't undestand that the problem is with the small USB soundcard and not with the headset.

The main issue here is not that the headset (which is now as useful as my Nokia earphones from 2006 as the surround sound functionality is not present) is faulty (it's the USB soundcard) or the fact that I'm paying 20% of the initial cost of the item, but that they aren't guranteeing that the item will be replaced.

I am literally paying a fine and taking a gamble because of their poor service delivery and the fact that the headset was a dud.

I will happily go to their "repair centre" myself as I am not willing to pay that amount of money on something that is their fault.

Terrible service

On a side note, a few days after ordering the headset, I noticed that the price went down from R1300 to under R1000. Why don't they take that money?
