Prescribed Debt

When obtaining a ITC report, I discovered that I owe First National Bank money on a personal loan that I had in 2013. According to me this loan was paid up as the monthly installments went off by debit order. I switched from FNB to Capitec and the bank did the switching. Its been three year now and I did not hear from FNB. I only discovered that my name was on the ITC. As far as I am aware, FNB is in posession of my adress and contact details. Why did they not make any contact with me regarding this matter. I phoned the NCR and they informed me that the debt has been prescribed after three years.

I have not acknowledge the debt in the past three consecutive years, either in writing or verbally

I did not make a promise to pay to the outstanding debt.

I have not been summoned to make a payment by a creditor for the debt within the past three years.

According to the NCR, a debt collector cannot ask you to pay off your debt and it is against the law if they do.

Account number: ********** ********** 395
