Zero contact approach with international client
FNB seems to have zero interest in assisting customers living outside of South Africa. I got locked out of my online banking and when I tried to reset my password to I was informed that my cards had been deactivated.
Now this is interesting as they neither gave me any warning or notice that this would be happening.
As I'm living outside of SA and unable to come into a local bank branch I asked a proxy to phone them (after another incident where I had to phone into the ***** line because the secure chat couldn't help me as I am not in SA, and the subsequent blunder on part of FNB, I was disconnected so often and given the runaround that I had to pay thousands of Rands extra in international call charges. so I refuse to phone them), we were told that I had to email FNB to reactivate my accounts.
That email was sent on November 11th 2020, and just like a query I sent in august this email received a automatic response, this one promising to `attend` to the issue within 24 hour.
It was a week (7 days) before I got a rather lackluster email from and agent asking for a verification document, which I sent within 30 minutes.
It has been over a week since then and I have heard nothing from them despite my daily emails asking for for an update and reminding them that this is an urgent matter as I am outside of SA with no access to my own money.
you would think that in the midst of a global crisis, a bank that cares about their clients would try to assist them.
This is why I took to this platform to warn people that if they plan to travel, work, or live outside of South Africa, then it would be best to not use FNB as they do not seem to have any interest in you other that your monthly fees.
A helpful customer care representative contacted me and the issue has been resolved.
