Wrong account
Whilst on holiday in Namibia I made an EFT payment to a B&B via the FNB banking app in Namibia. I did not notice that the banking app inserted the SA branch code and not the Namibian branch code. The result was that the money was deposited in an South African bank account for which it was not meant. I immediately went to FNB Swakopmund and they went out of their way to try and help me but due to the fact that the money went to an SA account there were not much they could do but to ask that a hold be put to the money. Back in SA I went to the bank to try and have the transaction reversed...Much to my surprised I was informed that the bank could not just reverse the payment but they must first get permission from the account holder. I was later informed that the bank can not get a hold of the account holder and that there is nothing they can do about it and that the money would be released to the account holder...How is it that even after proof was given that the money went to the wrong account you can do nothing FNB? Surely you must be able to help...
