What a ****

I got my son a cellphone on FNB. FNB however forgot to tell me that the device will be network locked. We are going on holiday now and there is limited FNB signal - not a problem I thought. Until I realised the device is networked locked. FNB will only give me a network unlocking pin once the contract term of 24 months end. There is still 20 months remaining. The alternative is to settle the whole contract, but then I forfeit the monthly data and airtime allocations.

How can this not be *****? Where is the consumer protected by this? I am willing to pay the contract and use the FNB network, but I want to from time to time use another network sim card when FNB is not available.

Can FNB come up with a solution, because incidents like this will make me move my whole banking portfolio somewhere else.
