Westgate branch consultant said to us, 'FNB does not want to open investments that a not worth while us'
My husband and I have decided to explore banking with other Banks either than the bank we have been both banking with for the past 10 years. So we decided to explore FNB the most innovative bank we here so maybe our kids could bank with them too. On Monday 24 June, we decided to go to the Westgate branch( no 1 greeted us and all got was a tickect that told us we were to wait for an hour and a half) ,so my husband decides, you know what let's put our capital at our old bank and we can open an account on my name at FNB to test how it is.
We left immediately to go next door and within an hour we were back to open an investment for my next birthday and the intention was to save R1500 a month. We were received very well the second time around but little did know what a disappointment was to come next.
We were sent to a consultant who did not greet us( not even a **** smile), so we set ourselves down and greeted her. It was clear that she was going to ask how she can help us so I started explaining that we are looking for a savings or investment account to save R1500 on a monthly basis and we would only require the money at most once every 6 months. Her response: We can offer you a 32 days account and opening deposited is R5000.00. So I asked: Is there an account we could open with a R1000 or less now cause we do have R5000. Her response: No, we can open a card savings account but it has a service fee for R4.50 monthly. My response: A card account won't work for us we would like to earn a little interest rather than being charged. How about a Tax free investment. Her response: Tax free account limits you, you can only save up to R34000 a year( which I thought was R33000 a year) and it also needs a deposit of R5000(a total lie). My response: But why does FNB have an account suitable for us. Her response: FNB does not want to open investment that are not worth while to us cause that will mean we have to keep opening and closing accounts. My response: So that means you do not have options for people with low income and just want to save. Her response: No My response: Let us not waste anymore of your time, thank you. Her response: Okay, thank you( was not sure if she is saying thank you that we are not going to waste her time?) We walked away disappoint and shocked.
I worked for my current bank for 5 years( I know what to expect from them and I am now a teacher. I was truely considering changing my bank and FNB was on top of the list cause I thought they were all about customer service and convenient banking. I did not know clients were classified and there was certain types( falsely identified) that they did not want.
I would never switch to them.
