Warning: Avoid FNB Car Insurance – Extreme Investigation Tactics to Avoid Payouts

Never switch to FNB Short-Term Insurance just to save on premiums. I left Auto & General (who previously settled a R40k claim with zero issues) to save almost R400 a month with FNB. It was the worst financial mistake I have ever made. Stick to reputable car insurance companies especially if you have claimed before and they did not give you headaches. Their claims process is designed to cause sleepless nights and headaches. They sent investigator after investigator specifically looking for any excuse to reject a claim over 150k . Their invasive process included: Downloading CCTV footage from a garage I visited. Demanded my bank statements (likely hunting for alcohol purchases). Interrogating my wife to verify my whereabouts. Demanding my personal phone records. After finding absolutely nothing, they finally rejected the claim because I was driving 70 km/h in a 60 km/h zone. They used a tiny clause in the contract stating I "failed to take reasonable measures to prevent loss/damage" to get out of paying. Avoid them at all costs.
