Waiting since 03 May 2017 for FNB to close a deceased estate bank account!?
As executor in a very straight forward deceased estate, I personally handed in all the necessary documentation at the Langenhovenpark branch (in BFN) on 03 May 2017.
After not receiving any word from the Deceased Estate Department, I contacted the said branch in July 2017 and spoke to the unit manager. After she confirmed with the Estate Department, she informed me that the branch has sent all the documentation to them and they have confirmed that they have received all the necessary documentation.
After not receiving any word from the Estate Department, the surviving spouse contacted the said department. Whereafter I had to (once again) supply banking details and permission for them to close the said account. I went (once again) to my personal bank to get proof of account and together with a letter granting them permission, I e-mailed them on the 14th of September 2017 to the e-mail address provided by the Deceased Estates Department.
After not receiving any confirmation of my e-mail, I resent the e-mail on 22 September 2017. I then received a generic e-mail which stated that they will get back to me a.s.a.p.
Today is the 04th of October! I have not received any word from FNB!! How on earth can it take 5 months (and counting) to close an account?? And why should the surviving spouse pay bank charges for an estate which has been finalized many months ago??
