After a desperate plea on HelloPeter, they jolted into action and let me know that they need my current FICA documents. That done, I had a call from a courteous and friendly fellow who shared the invigorating news that my account is active again. With barely concealed delight, I immediately went online where I was informed that there’s just one final verification step required: I need to pop into my nearest branch with my card. As I have told them repeatedly, I live near Lisbon and a return visit to my nearest branch involves a journey of nearly 17,000 km. It’s like living in a Fyodor Dostoevsky novel.
