Unprofessional and unreliable banking
I was advised by an FNB consultant to upgrade my account because apparently I was paying a lot in bank fees. After the upgrade, I received a call from an FNB consultant offering me an overdraft facility for my newly upgraded account. I requested more information on the facility before accepting it and was duly called by another consultant to explain how it works. At this point, I also discovered that the overdraft facility which I was being offered was already activated in my new account (without my approval) and that I was already owing on the overdraft.
Needless to say, I was quite upset by this and headed straight to the branch where my account was upgraded and to the original FNB consultant/adviser. Only to discover that FNB had included an overdraft facility of R14 000 to my new account, yes R14 000, without my approval or notifying me! At this point, I also discovered that I was already in R7000 debt on the overdraft. This all occured without any authorisation on my part or so much as an SMS notification from the bank. This was a very underhanded and unprofessional move on FNB's part, and no one is willing to take responsibility for it. The original FNB consultant blames the "accidental" overdraft on a system error. Very disappointing that these are the people we trust with our finances and life savings.
