Unfairly billed for Bank charges

I was recently a victim of an attempted ****.

A ******* deposited a ********** cheque into my bank account to the amount of R3200. I knew that the cheque would bounce, and it eventually did 2 days later. (It was deposited, but not yet cleared)

To my dismay at the time, I see that R3200 was deducted from my available funds (which left me R3200 out of pocket) to cover the bounced cheque. I found this highly unfair. I contact FNB and was told the funds would return to me within 8 days when the clearance of the initial deposit goes through(eventhough it was a *****elant deposit)

Why should my money be taken from me because of the way FNB handles cheque clearances? Anyway, I went into a branch the following day and was told that they would manually remove the hold. I left satisfied thinking my money would be back soon.

Following day, I get my money back, only to see that I was charged R50 cheque deposit fee for the ********** cheque a couple of days earlier, as well as a R250 "ENC uplift fee". Really FNB, I rave to friends and family at what a great bank you are, but this has left a really sour taste in my mouth.

Why should I be R300 out of pocket for something that isn't even my fault? I wasn't told that a R250 uplift fee would be charged to my account. Fair enough, if the R250 covers the upliftment of the hold on a cheque then fine, but why on earth was the bounced cheque value taken from my available funds? my actual money that I was told I would need to wait 8 days for.

I would like to request a reimbursment of these bank charges (at least the cheque deposit fee as an absolute minumum)

I usually don't complain but this time I was left bitterly disappointed by FNB this time round,
