********* BANKING PRACTICE

I owed money on an FNB cheque Account and FNB, without my knowledge deducted all the funds from a second Cheque Account in order to offset the debt. I contacted FNB and was subsequently advised that FNB sent a letter of demand and I had 14 days to comply with the letter of demand. I advised the agent that the 14 days had not yet lapsed and as such I was not afforded the entire period of time in which to remedy the matter. I was advised by the agent that FNB has every rigfht to do what they want and deduct the money even if the days afforded in terms of the letter of demand have not expired. The agent with whom I spoke imp**** that FNB is above the law and does not need to adhere to the National Credit Regulator's rules, the National Credit Act nor Ethical Banking Practices and if FNB is owed money, they can deduct money from a client's account without giving the client notification of the deduction occuring
