Unauthorsed Bank Charges

i have a business bank account with fnb. a client needed to make a payment to our account and paid by cheque. the cost to us is R40. we accept this. The client then also went ahead and requested a special clearance on the cheque without our knowledge. FNB charge R106 for this.

how is it allowed that a customer can decide what happens on our account without us having a say. they refuse to reverse the charge even though i did not give permission for the special clearance - in fact nobody from the bank contacted me as to whether we would want to a have the special clearance and accept the charges. it is such a small amount - why would we want it cleared immediately.

example. a customer owe R150 - he pays via a cheque (R40 fee ) - custmer is vindictive and request a special clearance because he wants to ( R106 clearance fee) is charged to our account. how is this fair practise.

i have a fnb reference number : RN ********** 00336 and spoke to my branch ( victor garrancho) and he bluntly states i have to pay for it he will not reverse it. According to him fnb process too many cheques to call everyone with a special clearance.

here is my stance on this. fnb uses this as a way to make extra income on bank charges ( an unauthorised service) i as the client of fnb and holder of the account does not have a say as to what is done in my account. i just have to pay fnb the charges. this is a major flaw in fnb banking system. i am investigating whether this is the case with any other banks. i informed victor that if the amount is not reversed and i have been a loyal customer for 20 years of fnb with all my personal , business and childrens bank accounts with them, i will endeavour to move my accounts to a bank where only i have the final say as to what happens in it. very disapointed in fnb with these types of unauthorised deductions. next i will raise the issue with the banking ombudsman if this is not resolved. fnb ( how can we help you) - attend to this problem in your banking system - it is a flaw ************ depositors can take advantage of innocent fnb clients - you need to find ways to protect your customers........
