Unauthorized Debit Orders - My money is not as safe

Good day,

Needless to say, I am furious.

At the end of last month or beginning of this month I received an SMS for a debit order of R99 from “Riskfin” that was deducted from my account. I immediately phoned and said to the lady who helped me that this is not right. I did not give anyone permission to draw money from my account. She was very helpful and stopped it but I had to pay R17 to stop it. (WHY? if it is not my doing) she said she is going to report it as ***** and gave me the ref no RG ********** 5777. (The call cost me R46)

This morning I am sitting in my room and received another SMS for a debit order of R129 that came through on my phone. I thought I am not going to waste another R46 on a phone call, I will go to FNB Woodbridge and sort it out directly (the petrol money cost me R30). I got there and the gentleman at counter 4 confirmed that it is a debit order from “TTMS”. I don’t know them and did not give permission for this to be deducted. This time to stop this debit order cost me R50 (Why? Still not my doing, and last month only R17 against this month’s R50 Why??) And I had to sign a letter that I will stop “my arrangement with TTMS” I do not know them and did NOT make any arrangements with them now I am forced to sign a document that I will stop this agreement between us.

I said to him to also report it as ***** and he said sorry it cannot be done and I must speak to another gentleman in the Relationship department.

That gentleman said he cannot do anything about it and neither can the bank and I must go to the police if I want to open a ***** case. Then he said what he can do is to open a new account for me but then I must let my “legal” debit orders and salary know of the change. This is unacceptable. It is not my fault but everything gets dumped on me to solve.

So my questions are:

· If FNB can’t protect my money and every time it is going to cost me a lot of money to stop these ********** debit orders that FNB allows to go through, then you must tell me so that my family and I can all move to another bank.

· Two months ago FNB started to harass me to register for cell phone banking and I said I am not interested. This situation confirms my view on cell phone and internet banking. If my money is not safe in the bank's hands it most definitely won’t be safe on internet. This morning the gentleman at counter 4 says “but if you register for cell phone banking it will only cost you R5 and not R50.” This raises the question is there a purpose behind suddenly allowing these ********** transactions to go through, as we never had this problem before.

I hope this issue will receive your urgent attention and I will receive feedback soonest.
