UNAUTHORISED DEBIT ORDER
I am very concerned that there was an unauthorised debit order in my cheque account for R95 (Ref no. Y2KCONNECT*** Netcash) on 31 August 2021. I find this strange because I have debicheck through which I have to approve all debit orders in my account. Even though I reversed this unauthorised payment, can the bank please investigate how this happened because it will be pointless to have debicheck while debit orders can still go through without my approval or knowledge. This should not be allowed to happen again because I don't like reversing debit orders as this impacts on my credit profile. Thanks

09 Sept 2021, 12:38Following my complaint about an unauthorised debit order for R95 (Y2KConnet) in my account on 31 August, I spoke to your consultant Justice Sedibane (from the debit order department) this morning about my concerns.
Unfortunately his explanation was still not satisfactory - like those of a consultant who contacted me on 2 September. Instead of apologising for the inconvenience caused to me, he made it seem like it was all my fault. I must stress that reversing an unauthorised debit order and be charged for it by the bank, is like suffering twice as a client while the company which did this gets away with it scot free. They then hit the next victim, and this problem goes on and on without end. This is wrong.
Unauthorised debit orders have been widely reported across all major banks and your consultant acted ******** about this. Bank employees should not have this attitude because these unauthorised debit orders were the reason debicheck was established in the first place.
My bone of contention is that:- how did the debit order went through without me approving it because I have debicheck?- why does the bank has to charge me for reversing a debit order I didn’t approve - unless the bank allows this in order to make more money from clients? What I expect the bank to do is to investigate if my compliant is valid, then demand that the company should refund me the bank charges of reversing the debit order.- The bank should also demand the contract or mandate from the company that debited my account to show that I agreed to that deduction?
What was unfortunate was that your consultant told me that the bank cannot do what I've requested above for every client. I felt was treated as a group and not an individual. Strangely, I do not pay group bank charges but my charges are tailored according to my individual needs.
For the record, it is not the first time I have complained about unauthorised debit orders. At one time, FNB made me open a case against one company with the police. However, this was a futile exercise because the police and the bank were reluctant to follow up on the matter. These ********** know that one cannot pay thousands of rands in legal fees for just R95 - hence they are able to get away with this ******* practice. Fortunately this problem stopped when I got debicheck - until this latest incident.
Going forward, can you please ensure that I authourise every debit order - no matter what the amount is. What your consultant Justice also told me that I have only to authorise debit orders over R100 is unacceptable to me.
The bank should seriously consider blacklisting, reprimanding or taking drastic action against these ***** companies who ***** from clients like Netcash and Y2KConnect. I have also contacted these companies and they failed to give a contract or voice note showing that I agreed to the debit order.
I also need some assurance from the bank that they contacted these companies and have taken some sort of action against them if they cannot prove that I agreed to the debit order.
Hope my concerns will be addressed and I won’t have to deal with unauthorised debit orders again.
Kind regards
