Unacceptable Service from FNB ***** Department
Tuesday 7 February at 10:10am we received a copy of the sales agreement for the property we had purchased. At 10:30am, we received a letter from what appeared to be the "Conveyancing Attorneys", on a legitimate letter head with their banking details at FNB asking Us to deposit R175 000 as agreed in the sales agreement. Thursday 9 February, we received a phone call from the conveyancers asking Us to pay R100 to check banking details. When we said we had paid R175 000 already, we realised we had been ****med. The partner whose name they had used to convince Us of the legitimacy of the letter, phoned FNB ***** department and was told we had to make a case which we did immediately. They told Us to go the nearest police station and get a case number. Thandokazi Mqalu was appointed as our investigator at FNB. We had numerous correspondences with them including requesting that the ********** bank account be frozen. Eventually a week after we had reported the case, we contacted the investigator asking what was happening. The reply came back, "Speak to your bank, we have reported to them." We objected to the fact that they had not contacted us as the complainant. Our bank told us that they had been told that the funds in the ********** account had been depleted and there was nothing more to be done. Our reply to FNB was the complaint was now against them for not doing Customer Due Diligence before opening the ********** account. We told the warrant officer at SAPS Darling, who is investigating Our case, that the complaint was now against FNB. Only he can get the details of who opened the account because of the data protection act and follow the digital trail of the money. We hold FNB responsible for the **** for not doing CDD and the attitude and handling of the ***** department appalling.
