Unacceptable service
App**** to open an account with FNB a while back. After receiving the SMS to pick up my new card, I proceeded to the bank (FNB, Overport (the Atrium)) with my ID and a signed formal letter from the chairman of the Body Corp from the flat where I reside. I was told this couldn't be accepted as proof of residence. I was then issued this dumb form for an individual confirming another individual's residential address, which was filled in and brought back with an original utility bill. As backup I brought along a signed affidavit stamped by the police station. Apparently even this was not acceptable because the bill only contained the street address and did not explicitly state the town/suburb, despite the area code clearly printed below . This is an original utility bill. That is how the address has always been shown. This can be verified by checking the bills issued for the past 10 years or so. Note that the town name and area code were clearly visible on the left hand side, with the street and number displayed on the right. But still unacceptable. Upon telling the consultants to read and understand the situation, I just get this dumb struck look as if I'm speaking some unknown language. So I show them the affidavit, literally stamped and signed by the commissioner of oaths, even this was inadequate and did not qualify as proof as residence. This is absolutely pathetic. I will be trying another branch in hopes that this poor service was specific to the branch, if not, I want absolutely nothing to do with FNB and their ridiculous criteria for what is considered to be a valid document.
