Unable to keep up with current Account

I have been using FNB's cheque for over a decade now, last year around this time I lost my job,I have been unemployed for just over a year now, efforts to come to some kind of arrangement with FNB to keep up with the Bank charges and overdraft fees has been proven unsuccessful each time I tried. I went into a different branches a number of times in a hope that I would get a different answer but in all occasion I am put through to some agent on the phone who ultimately can not help me any further but suggest that I pay the overdraft amount which is approximately R4390,my plea was to maybe freeze the account,or change the account type from cheque to savings(or some kind of arrangement),because closing it completely is currently not viable since it has charges and the overdraft costs. But instead of the account just being on a negative amount and accumulating unnecessary penalties and more charges,is there nothing that can be done for a customer that has been with the Bank for such a long time and has only been unable to maintain the account because of an unfortunate state of unemployment,I have tried to keep up with the account for a few months but with no stable income it has proven very hard. Below is the reference of the proffesional lady that also tried to help.
