Unable to close cheque account after multiple attempts.

I have had numerous attempts to close this account - no success. I am simply unable to close my cheque account with FNB. I was told to go to a branch last month. I sat with a consultant who took me through a process, I paid fees etc., of R1000 and the consultant assured me that the account was closed.

But - not surprisingly - this morning got an e-mail of the account fees - R300 going off again -as the account is still open......... I went through the app, to try (yet again) to close it - but: the app says - go to your branch......

Is this even legal? How can a Bank force you to keep an account open, if you deliberately close it - pay up all the fees and give very CLEAR instructions to close it. FNB eeks out every last cent of account fees, by somehow making it impossible to close an account - despite very clear instructions from a customer to close it!

NOW - I have to go back to a branch - during work hours.... - and sit in a serious queue. This waste of time and money is due to FNB not willing to close my account on my instructions
