Three weeks to execute a telegraphic transfer

It took 3 weeks for the staff at the Newton Street Branch in Port Elizabeth to transfer a refund due to me. The first week I presume it sat on someone's desk. The second week some work was commenced as I was asked a few questions. I brought to their attention that the account details I gave them for the account to be credited was different to the account what I had debited but if the money had to be paid into that same account to go ahead. I emailed them nearly everyday for updates. Not everday I got one. On the Friday of the second week, after I had asked again for an update, I was told I should recieve my funds in 12 days. I rep**** asking why so long to be told, oh that was a mistake they meant 2. I asked for a proof of payment to be told 4 hours later that because the accounts were dfferent they had to apply for permission from the Reserve Bank at a cost to me of R1600. I told them to proceed. At the beginning of the third week I asked for an update and asked how long it would take. I was told it would take 4 -6 weeks but they had marked it urgent. 2 days later I asked for an update. They had got the permission and would start work on the transfer. I was told the next day....when I emailed them again for an update that I would get my money the next day. I did not. I finally recieved my money on the Friday.

Not once did someone answer my lengthy queries.....why it was taking so long etc......not once did anyone update me, I had to take the initiative, and not once did anyone apologise for the delay.

How does it take someone who works in a bank and with figures everyday 5 DAYS to notice that 2 accounts are different? And that was with me bringing it to their attention!

The incompetance was staggering. How that bank manages to do business with anyone is beyond me.
