*******
10 July I deposit money into a friend's account I'd previously made a deposit to. Turns out that the friend's account has been frozen. 28 July I physically go into a branch (because none of the listed phone numbers online work) to submit the payment reversal form and get a reference number *** I get told that the bank will contact me 'soon'. 1 August I phone the bank (get through by means of contacting their international landline number). After an hour and a half, I finally got an email address to which I need to direct my query. I wrote and immediately got an automated reference number: *** The next day I get a response that the reversal was unsuccessful due to the recipient not having enough money in the account to effect the reversal, and that my friend, the recipient didn't give consent...I know that the account is frozen, and I know that my friend wasn't contacted by the bank in any way. The only recourse is to email the complaints/care line - I email and get the reference number *** 26 August I get another email stating that the reversal can't be affected due to insufficient funds... FNB quite happily accepted my money into a frozen bank account that can't be utilized by my friend, then keep it on the premise that my friend hasn't given consent (which is *******). The terms and conditions of the reversal state that "The bank does not guarantee a successful reversal and all reversals are attempted on a best effort basis." Best effort basis....this is outright thievery. I put money into the account, the account hasn't been used, therefore it must still be there. I want my money back FNB!
In other words - Nothing.
