Thank goodness FNB doesn't run Eskom

Let me just say up front that I am very thankful that FNB is not running Eskom. We would be on stage 26 if they were.

We had a simple issue. One of our employees who has been issued with a company credit card left it behind at a supplier who had then closed for the weekend so we wanted to place the card on hold in case someone got hold of it over the weekend. Sounds simple. Phoned the card division; no problem just go onto online banking and put a hold on the card. I tried to find the facility to do this and couldn't so I phoned Internet banking.

Internet banking told me that they couldn't assist. I needed to get hold of card division and then proceeded to put me through to authorizations. They tried to explain to me how to put a block on the card but then admitted that it was not possible with a business card. I would need to speak to Business Banking. Business Banking of course couldn't help so they transferred me to Card division who told me I had to go through to *****. ***** could only assist if I there had been *****. If I just wanted to put the card on hold there was another department responsible. By this stage smoke was pouring from my ears. I demanded a manager, but of course, none was available and I was put on hold in a loop which kept asking me endless questions so I put the phone down and phoned again to Card Division and asked for the manager. They simply put the phone down. By the time I phoned Card Division again my blood pressure was boiling. Wesley answered the phone and offered to try to assist. He didn't just pass me on; he undertook to try to contact the relevant department. After over 20 minutes he eventually gave up and suggested that we simply cancel the card and apply for a new one.

Surely this is a simple procedure. Surely this happens regularly. Surely therefore FNB staff should be fami**** with such a simple procedure. Put Wesley in charge of the department and fire the rest of the clowns.

I trust that you will now understand my original comment. Imagine if FNB were running Eskom. We would be in darkness.
