Terrible Phone customer Service, Bank account closed after 3 months of inactivity, no resolution.
This could possibly be the worst nightmare experience i've had in years. I opened an FNB account in Seapoint Cape Town in February. I informed the teller that I will be working abroad and that the reason I'm opening the account is that they offer the best service for Expats. (as I was fed up with the global support from Standard bank). The teller assured me, I would not have any problems with my account as long as there was funds in the account. I tried sending money to the account on Thursday and was informed via online banking that my account had been made "in active". I spent hours on the phone being bounced around different departments, being told different information, I spent a fortune on phone calls, but no resolve. I was even told to contact my branch and they would activate it for me, but the branch number listed on google did not work, neither did the number work when i called back customer service to ask for the correct number. Finally, i resorted to contacting FNB customer service via facebook. The representative then informed me that accounts are made in active after 3 months of inactivity and that I would have to open a new account. SOOO basically my account was CLOSED without my permission even though there was money it after 3 MONTHS!! I am absolutely furious. I did not receive any warning emails, only my monthly statements (which i still receive) I have sent emails to customer service and still no damn reply. Avoid this bank like the plague if you are an Expat!!
